Twenty one Pilots “More Than We Ever Imagined”

Live in Mexico City

“We are Twenty One Pilots and so are you.”

This is how Tyler Joseph –lead singer of the Ohio duo– greets the audience before stepping off the stage at the biggest concert he has ever performed at with his friend and drummer Josh Dun.

“More Than We Ever Imagine” captures one of their sold-out performances, showing the energy the duo brings to the stage, unleashing over 65,000 people but also more intimate moments where they discuss life while remembering their climb to success.

We are in Mexico City, February 20, 2025, and the couple of friends are about to perform at their biggest headliners event. Between performances, we can watch Josh and Tyler discuss their lives, careers, and challenges while touring. During one of these most intimate moments, the drummer says that their first time in Mexico dates back many years, when they were just an opening act for another famous band: Paramore.

The energy these guys transmit when they go on stage is pure adrenaline. The entire movie theater found itself repeatedly jumping and screaming songs as if it were an integral part of the audience in Mexico. This shows the ability these artists have to interact with the audience and make each performance unique.

Among the scenes leading up to the concert preparation, we can find Tyler discussing with the Crew to make last-minute changes to the set design, then complimenting them on the work their team does each time. The duo also admits that they often watch their own performances and those of others to improve themselves, wanting to learn new things and bring superior artistic performances to the public. At this very moment, the singer explains that in every concert there comes a moment for fans when they start to wonder “What time is it? How long until the end?” And they want to prevent this from happening in their shows.

On the way to the Stadium the two partners converse about their work and the fortune they have. According to the singer, it would be more difficult to play for an audience of fifteen people rather than a giant audience, finding the former more demanding and difficult to entertain.

As the minutes go by on the screen we also see a moment of deep connection. The entire stadium is colored with pink, yellow and blue lights creating a stunning fan action during the Mulberry Street performance.

Another tender moment can be when Tyler is on the B Stage in the middle of the audience singing ‘Ride’ and a little fan joins him, singing the end of the song together with a frame of lights around them that looks just like a starry sky. Sticking to the setlist, the concert ends with both musicians in the audience to the tune of ‘Trees,’ then returning to the stage for a final farewell, subsequently disappearing backstage.

The concert film ends with the couple of friends in a car, discussing the evening, when Joseph asks Dun a question: “Knowing everything that happened and all the time it took, if we returned in 2011 would you do everything again?” Luckily for us the answer is positive and with a good night our journey ends.

This was not just a film but an adventure in organizing the event that marked the band's history, as well as an opportunity to sing once again, even if seated, songs that had the ability to bring people together. We are not talking about a normal concert film, but an experience that connected music along with the emotions of fans and artists.
