Born and raised in Gravesend, Kent, she first caught the public eye at just 16, when she stepped onto The X Factor UK stage. Her journey ended in the quarter-finals with a strong fifth-place finish, but that early spotlight quickly led to a record deal with Simon Cowell’s Syco Music, where she was often described as the “British Rihanna.” Now 28, she continues to carve out her own identity as one of the most exciting young voices in contemporary R&B.
Music has always been a part of Tamera’s world. Growing up in a family where her grandmother, a church minister, encouraged her to sing, she developed her voice early, learning to blend into group harmonies and experiment with melodies that would later define her artistry. Today, her creative process reflects that same openness, drawing from a wide range of influences while staying true to her soulful core.
Her personal projects have marked important milestones in her journey. In 2021, she released Afrodite, a five-track EP that introduced her lush blend of R&B, soul, and Afro-inspired rhythms, showcasing both her emotional depth and her versatility. Two years later, in 2023, she returned with Lost in Translation, a six-song collection that pushed her sound further, balancing vulnerability with confidence, and intimacy with power. Both projects defined her as an artist unafraid to experiment while staying authentic to her voice. Now, in 2025, she is reaching even bigger audiences as the supporting act on Jessie Reyez’s Paid in Memories tour.
If her recorded music highlights her authenticity, her live performances magnify it. On stage, Tamera radiates charisma, engages effortlessly with the crowd, and delivers power and emotionally charged vocals.
