5 times pop divas were on our screens

It’s nothing new to see singers step into acting and vice versa (yes, we talked about it in a previous post), but there’s something different when it’s a pop diva doing it.
This is our ode to the moments where pop girls didn’t just cameo… they owned the screen:

  • Billie Eilish in the show Swarm on Amazon Prime Video: her role in Swarm was eerie, intimate, and completely against expectation. Playing a cult-like, almost hypnotic character, she proved that her artistic identity translates far beyond music.

  • Rihanna in the movie Ocean's 8: in Ocean’s 8, she plays Nine Ball, a hacker with zero interest in being likable and full commitment to being iconic. It’s understated, dry, and very her. And it wasn’t a one-off: she’s also appeared in films like Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets and voiced a lead role in Home, proving she can move between blockbuster, animation, and cult sci-fi.

  • Beyoncé in the movie Dreamgirls: as Deena Jones in Dreamgirls, Beyoncé stepped into a character inspired by Diana Ross and delivered a performance that blurred the line between fiction and legacy. And while this is her most iconic acting role, it’s far from her only one: she’s starred in Cadillac Records, Obsessed, and voiced Nala in The Lion King.

  • Sabrina Carpenter in the movie Work It on Netflix: before dominating pop playlists, Sabrina was already quietly building an acting career with the Girl Meets World. Work It gave her a full leading-role moment with dance, comedy, and charisma, and she carried it with ease.

  • Britney Spears in the movie Crossroads: at the peak of her early 2000s fame, Britney took on a coming-of-age road film that mirrored, in many ways, the public’s projection of her: freedom, confusion, girlhood, and growing up too fast.
