Vegetables. About people.

pdf

Picking vegetables for this issue was not easy. But we did what we could. After all, it is very appealing to say something about people through the prism of their vegetable existence. All living things possessing associative thinking live in a multilayered space of opposites, and one of them is precisely "fruit-vegetable". Then another childhood world, where Cippolino and Princess Brambilla lived, turns out to be real.

011 BETWEEN FRUIT AND VEGATABLE

In order not to forget what kind of a person you truly are, it is good sometimes to be a vegetable. 17 individuals - intellectuals, poets, musicians and painters, representatives of different continents, seriously pondered on the topic of their personal growth life, and confessed some of their vegie-fruit fantasies and peeked into the bright, vegetable tomorrow.

047 THE WAR OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES
Pavel Peppershtein
Soon, the two armies stood facing each other on the shores of the river Juice. According to the ancient tradition, two knights came forth from their ranks to face off in front of their armies. From the side of the fruit Watermelon stepped forward, from the side of the vegetables - Pumpkin. Their sizes were huge, 100 km in height. They collided with a wild shout. Both bursted - from the Watermelon came out White Fire that shone in height, having formed the Eternal String. From Pumpkin flew out a flock of white butterflies that had swarmed over a big human skull. Where to the butterflies flew away with the skull is unknown. Soon peace had been made.

interview by Alexander Pas
ANDREW PEKLER: I use live tools as bait. Somewhat similar to fishing - you cast a line with the bait into the water, then unexpectedly the fish-listener appears on the hook, then in air, and then … nobody knows, what will happen then, where the music will lead … After all, everyone has in his head an "archive" of imprinted impressions of how a guitar should sound, a violin, the drums. I actively use it, but I try to lead the listener a little bit further, into new dimensions - without characteristics and not stereotypic …

The USA Today art show at the London Royal Academy of Arts demonstrates the upgrade of the eternal present. Really, what else is there left? Seemingly, desire. Almost the same as a century ago. The desire to be a human. The majority of the young artists presented have already won recognition. Regardless of the bright, spectaculaity of the exposition, it can hardly be called infantile. wow! The digital mirror of the present clearly produced cracks.

Film is infantile. Barely a century man has recorded images, melded them with montage, layered them, created, destroyed and projected them for the sake of art, of entertainment. In such a setting, the rate of discovery outpaces the rate of convention. The avant-garde, at its outset, was clear in its aesthetic juxtaposition to mainstream cinema. Whilst narrative fi lms were housed on the foundations of the few sound technical aspects of fi lmmaking-i.e. replicating an image and sound equitable to the human eye and ear-artists like Wiene, Deren and later Brakhage found themselves outside and in advance of their contemporaries, exploring the fringes of the aesthetic principles in an eff ort to voice narratives incompatible with conventional means.
